What Consumes My CPU and All My Patience

R2R.exe  (useless Lenovo “rescue & recovery” app sucks life out of my laptop’s performance… hard drive grinds away and everything goes slowwwwly… DIE r2r)

ccSvcHst.exe (Symantec Norton AntiVirus CPU sucking app)

LUCOMS~1.exe (yet another Symantec Norton AntiVirus CPU sucking app)

LuCallbackProxy.exe (could it be? yes, another Symantec Norton AntiVirus CPU sucking app that does more harm than good. if i opened that doc already once, really Norton, it doesn’t need another virus scan. will you please just let me browse the web on my own without looking over my shoulder, Norton? i’m a grown-up and you are just slowing me down. )

acrobat.exe (if god forbid i should have a web browser tab open with an in-line pdf in it, all bets are off on my laptop’s performance. we’re talking 10 seconds to pop open the Start menu, 90 seconds to get Outlook (another CPU hog) to do anything, and, well, screw it, the weather is nice i shouldn’t be trying to work on my computer anyway)

  1. Dan, simple fix. You do know that .exe files do not run on a Mac, right? Any other problems?

    Kidding.

I ran into a similar example loading Tweetdeck onto my Mac, and noticing an immediate “Ross Perot Great Sucking Sound” effect in terms of performance. A quick query why to Twitter revealed the culprit – Tweetdeck is written on a grotesquely misnamed Adobe platform product called “Air” that is a RAM piranha. Until I go to 4 Gb of RAM, no Tweetdeck.
